More about The G4S 4teen
G4S has chosen to use sport to support 14 individuals and their communities in 13 developing markets around the world. 14 talented young sportsmen are supported, many from impoverished backgrounds. They are given financial and pastoral support to help them reach their sporting goals and develop as young people. The support provides them with the opportunity to develop through funding for coaching, travel to events, purchase of equipment and other bespoke requirements.
The support represents unique opportunities that, for many athletes, would undoubtedly not otherwise be accessible. From the outset in 2007 G4S 4teen secured the support of double Olympic Champion Haile Gebrselassie to act as a hands-on mentor to the athletes. Each year a group of athletes are given the chance to travel to Ethiopia to spend time with Haile to train with and learn from him.
G4S also organises an annual training camp for the athletes, who come together to learn from some of the world’s leading sporting experts as well as to have a series of once in a lifetime experiences. In addition, a considerable resource is put towards providing social support for the athletes’ families and wider communities. This involves identifying local needs in local communities and supporting them with bespoke activities to meet the demand. Support includes donation of sports equipment to orphanages and schools, assistance for athletes’ families, and building sports training facilities for local community use.
