More about Soccer for Success
The mission of the U.S. Soccer Foundation is to enhance, assist, and grow the sport of the soccer in the United States with a special emphasis on underserved communities. Using a program called Soccer for Success, the Foundation addresses the unique health, social, and safety issues affecting youth in these communities.
The program combats issues related to childhood obesity and juvenile delinquency by providing free afterschool programming that combines soccer instruction and physical activity with nutrition education and mentorship; the program is designed to teach the game to young athletes while simultaneously fostering holistic growth and development.
Players participate in 90-minute sessions three times per week to ensure ample physical activity and are guided by trained coaches in a 15:1 player-to-coach ratio. Coaches serve as mentors who stress the importance of excelling in school while promoting the values of teamwork, leadership, discipline, and respect.
