More about Safe Spaces initiative
This Safe Spaces initiative recognizes the inherent power of sports and leverages its influence to galvanize diverse community residents and stakeholders to have an active voice and stake in a sports-centered, community project.
In each market, love.fútbol works with a local implementing partner to understand what the community needs in terms of a sports space and then galvanizes the community by using the inherent passion and excitement of sports. From there, a local committee is formed consisting of key locals stakeholders (schools, churches, non-profits, businesses), instigating ownership and leadership.
ESPN then works closely with love.fútbol on the design of the sports space, providing insight, resources and volunteer hours to ensure it fulfills the community's needs. Following the opening, the local committee transitions into a Neighbors Network, responsible for the maintenance, revenue generation and use of the space while A Ganar works with the local implementing partner to train them in the methodology of using sports to teach employability skills.
