More about Project GOAL
Using the unifying power and values of “football” (soccer), Project GOAL is a gang and delinquency prevention program with emphases on improving the quality of education available to children of all income and social classes of RI. Soccer has a large cultural significance for the Hispanic and African children in the communities we serve, using the passion and desire to play, we attract inner-city kids into the program and push for academic excellence. We use soccer as a disciplinary and motivational tool for students to become leaders, appreciate other people’s backgrounds, work as a team, and stay away from the temptation of streets and gangs. Most organized activities in North America require fees and the necessity for car transportation, therefore participation becomes prohibitive. Project GOAL does not charge fees and provides transportation to those who need it, as well as soccer and school supplies and bi-lingual educators and coaches, eliminating any barriers that would prohibit underserved youth from involvement.
