BEYOND SPORT AWARDS 2016, SUPPORTED BY COMIC RELIEF NOW OPEN FOR ENTRIES

Beyond Sport is delighted to announce that the Beyond Sport Awards 2016, supported by Comic Relief are now open for entries!

To reflect this year’s Summit theme of ‘innovation’, Beyond Sport is delighted to announce the Best New Innovation Award, which will recognise and reward a genuinely innovative piece of technology, curriculum, programming or project that has developed a unique approach to use sport for social transformation. The recipient of this award will receive cash funding, as well as a bespoke package of business support courtesy of Comic Relief and numerous business support package providers.

The Beyond Sport Awards, supported by Comic Relief promote, support and reward the best projects across the globe that are using sport for positive social change. Since 2009, Beyond Sport has had 1894 projects enter the awards from 145 countries. Beyond Sport has awarded over 160 projects for their innovations and social impact through sport.

The shortlisted & winning entries from each category will have opportunities for business mentoring and cash support whilst becoming members of an influential group of social entrepreneurs in the sporting sphere.

The Categories for the 2016 Beyond Sport Awards, supported by Comic Relief are as follows:

  •          Sport for Conflict Resolution Award
  •          Sport for Education Award
  •          Sport for Health Award
  •          UNICEF Safeguarding Children in Sport Award
  •          Barclays Sport for Employability and Enterprise Award
  •          Sport Team of the Year
  •          Corporate Citizenship Campaign of the Year
  •          Sport Federation / Governing Body of the Year
  •          Sport for Environment Award

All entries to the Beyond Sport Awards go through a detailed judging process. This starts with a review of all entered projects by our Advisory Panel, a group of experts from the sport and social development sectors, who are responsible for selecting the shortlist in each category. From the Official Shortlist, the winners are then voted for by representatives from our Advisory Panel, Beyond Sport, our Ambassadors and the Beyond Sport Foundation Trustees. The judging process is fully audited by an independent assessor throughout to ensure total transparency.

Winners of the 2015 Beyond Sport Awards, supported by Comic Relief included the likes of Waves For Change, an organisation using surfing as a form of therapy for children in violent communities; L.A.C.E.S. using sport to educate and raise awareness amongst at-risk youths during the Ebola crisis in Liberia; Hijabs and Hat-tricks, for their work using football as a platform to ease the path for girls of Muslim faith into Irish society; and Figure Skating in Harlem who combine educational support and leadership training alongside the sport of figure skating to girls in Harlem facing generational poverty.

The winners of the Beyond Sport Awards, supported by Comic Relief will be announced at the Beyond Sport Awards Ceremony on the evening of Day 2 of the Beyond Sport Summit & Awards 2016 held at Here East in London’s Olympic Park, on October 19th.
