More about Michezo Na Elimu Savings Fund
Michezo na Elimu Savings Fund (MESF) meaning, sports and education savings fund, is a sports based community driven savings where football is used to enhance savings among parents and schools to support transition of primary school children to secondary schools. The aim is to reduce school drop-out, bridge the child from impoverishment by giving them hope continue with their education in order to break the vicious circle of poverty and violence.
Football sessions/drills/games are used to teach values, human rights, conflict resolution leadership, community service and the culture of saving money. Tournaments and leagues are used to pass messages and lobby communities on education and wealth creation through savings and sports based investments. Special attention is given to girl involvement.
As children participate in football and school activities, parents are encouraged to save money for their education. The savings are done through mobile money transfer where data collected, analyzed and stored in specialized server. The fund created is invested and the profit is redistributed to the parents on a share basis. The parents’ share is given directly to the schools as tuition fees.
