Fred Fikouhi-Turner (He/Him)

Executive Director

Fred heads Beyond Sport’s global efforts to place sport at the heart of addressing the world’s most pressing social issues.

He has driven transformational growth at the Foundation since taking the role, launching new initiatives and boosting income on an annual basis. Under his leadership, Beyond Sport has developed into one of the world’s leading sport for social change funders, supporting over 170 organizations and individuals annually through progressive grant-making and tailored capacity-building programs.

He oversees an international team which delivers global multi-million-dollar programs with major organizations including New Balance Foundation, NFL, Women Win, Under Armour, IOC, Z Zurich Foundation, Unilever, ESPN, NFLPA and Sun Life.

With over 12 years of experience in sport, development and social impact, he is passionate about bringing people of diverse backgrounds and experiences together – united by a specific cause, sector or focus – to trigger lasting change through education and collaboration.

Before Beyond Sport, he worked with the UK’s prominent Sport Industry Group as well as the global corporate engagement initiative, Square Mile Relay, where he played a key role in delivering events, production and content offerings.

In his spare time, he can be found dancing down Holloway Road in London with fellow Arsenal fans, exercising, searching for the best coffee spots, checking out live music, strolling through local parks and markets or traveling to new places with his wife, Chloe.

Karen Asare headshot

Karen Asare (She/Her)

Director, Content & Communications

Karen is our strategic communications lead, with a wealth of experience in campaign development, partnership activation and public advocacy. She excels at creating digital content and devising communication strategies that engage global audiences to tackle critical social issues.

She oversees communications for the Foundation, working with her team to advance Beyond Sport’s mission, amplifying the work of our global network and expanding public awareness of sport’s ability to drive positive social change.

Before joining Beyond Sport, Karen worked at human rights NGO, Equality Now, where she managed successful communications campaigns for partners like Gucci’s global “Chime for Change” initiative and Participant Media’s “Take Part” platform. While at the Avon Foundation for Women, she implemented employee engagement and corporate citizenship activations for Reebok, Genentech and Novartis as part of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Karen’s experience extends to television production, where she worked on three Olympic Games and various sporting events for NBC Olympics and NBC Sports, earning four Sports Emmy Awards.

She holds a B.A. in Media Studies with a minor in International Studies from Penn State University. In her free time, Karen enjoys reading, traveling around the world and chilling out with friends and family.

Adam Burgess

Adam Burgess (He/Him)

Director, Programmes

Adam leads program operations at Beyond Sport, including fund design, grant applications, assessments and ensuring smooth operations with due diligence. He oversees delivery of a wide range of programs addressing mental wellbeing, physical health, equity, refugee inclusion, youth empowerment and more.

Before Beyond Sport, Adam spent a decade growing the impact of Coaches Across Continents, managing programs with Disney, ESPN, Nike and the Swedish Postcode Foundation. Through this work he has comprehensive knowledge of the global sport for social change landscape, understanding the key factors and social challenges affecting the communities organizations serve.

Adam holds an MBA in International Sports Management from Coventry University and a BA in Sports Studies from Stirling University. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his kids, playing golf, biking and travel.

Carly Heinz

Carly Heinz (They/Them)

Director, Development

Carly leads Beyond Sport’s fundraising and partnership development efforts, working to secure the resources needed to drive the Foundation’s mission forward. They bring 14 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and a competitive spirit from their background as a former tennis player.

Before joining Beyond Sport, Carly honed their skills in fundraising at Epic Foundation, Roc Nation and PAN Foundation. They are also an AmeriCorps alumnus.

Carly holds a BA in Peace Studies from Goucher College where they played NCAA Division III tennis for four years and attended New York University’s Irish and Irish American Studies graduate program. In their spare time, Carly can be found traveling, attending as many concerts as possible, watching tennis and last, but certainly not least, supporting Liverpool FC.

Philee Ang-Chen (She/Her)

Manager, Grants

Philee leads on end-to-end grant-making across Beyond Sport’s global programs.

Prior to joining Beyond Sport, she worked at Global Fund for Children. There, she designed participatory grant-making initiatives across Europe and Asia, with a focus on youth leadership, racial and climate justice and gender equity. She is a trustee at Springboard Youth Academy, a charity that supports refugee and asylum-seeking young people who have faced challenging journeys to the UK.

Philee holds a degree in Psychology and has published research in the Journal of Public Health, which focuses on the relationship between healthy lifestyle behaviors and non-communicable diseases.

In her spare time, she likes to travel, read and find a nice spot to watch the sunset.

Emily Belcher (She/Her)

Manager, Community & Foundation Events

Emily leads on the planning and delivery of programmatic activations and organizational events that advance Beyond Sport’s sport for social change mission. She brings wide-ranging experience in equality and diversity, event management and creating inclusive spaces where people can flourish through sports to her role.

Prior to joining Beyond Sport, Emily worked at the Chelsea FC Foundation where she led on the development and implementation of strategic initiatives focused on promoting inclusion, diversity and equality, with a particular emphasis on youth-centered programs.

She holds a BA (Hons) in English and Sport Science from Loughborough University and, true to the university’s spirit, enjoys getting involved in a variety of sports. Outside of work, Emily is a big foodie and loves exploring London’s latest ‘must try’ spots.

Ulises Cartagena (He/Him)

Manager, Individual Giving

Ulises is responsible for securing financial support from individuals and family foundations in order to advance Beyond Sport’s mission. He believes in the power of sport and connection to drive meaningful change, leveraging strategic fundraising to build lasting donor relationships.

Before joining Beyond Sport, Ulises spent over seven years in nonprofit development, administration and marketing, empowering veterans, immigrants and survivors of abuse. He honed his skills at organizations such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Long Island Children’s Museum and The Art Therapy Project. He is a Marine Corps veteran and co-founder of Pazitos, a nonprofit supporting at-risk youth in El Salvador through education and resources.

He is an addictions counseling graduate from the Outreach Training Institute and holds nonprofit development certifications from Adelphi University. In his free time, Ulises enjoys being at the beach, creating art, playing kickball and supporting his local New York sports teams. Above all, he loves Arsenal—you can often find him with the Long Island Gooners, an Arsenal Supporters Club he co-founded in 2022.

Nick Coltman

Nick Coltman (He/Him)

Manager, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

Nick supports Beyond Sport’s programs team across various processes, from market research to impact measurement. He is passionate about leveraging sport for social change and is dedicated to helping create positive, lasting impact.

Nick earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Loughborough University, initially developing experience in sport for social change at Sport England before joining Beyond Sport. He is especially interested in the use of data and insights to support the development and improvement of social impact programs, contributing to this function across a range of initiatives.

In his free time, Nick enjoys playing rugby and supporting his beloved Leicester City through thick and thin.

Tarryn Horner

Tarryn Horner (She/Her)

Senior Manager, Programmes

Tarryn manages key strategic programs and partnerships at Beyond Sport, including the Olympism365 Innovation Hub, a collaboration with the IOC and Women Win. She’s dedicated to using sport to drive youth leadership, equality and inclusion. 

Before joining Beyond Sport, Tarryn developed her expertise in sport for development, programs and grants management at Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the Football Foundation. She  is also an avid sportswoman and clinical health professional who has lived and worked in South Africa, Vietnam and the UK. 

She has a Bachelor’s and Honors degrees in Sports Science and Biokinetics from Stellenbosch University and a Master’s degree in Sport Business and Leadership from Loughborough University. Tarryn enjoys spending her time outdoors in nature, hanging out with friends around a good South African braai, trying new things and seeing new places. 

Aahiri Hoskote (She/Her)

Coordinator, Programmes

Aahiri is responsible for supporting the day-to-day delivery of Beyond Sport’s programs in addition to activations and special projects.

She is a BA (Hons) Global Development graduate from the University of York with a strong passion for equity and representation in sport. During her studies at York and her year abroad at the University of Amsterdam, she explored how the media shapes sporting narratives, from the hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar to the rising visibility of women’s sport after the Lionesses’ 2022 UEFA Euro win. At York, she championed inclusion by developing sports spaces for ethnic minority students, ensuring sport remains a platform for all.

Aahiri is a keen netball player and devoted cricket fan, following her hometown team Royal Challengers Bangalore through every high and low. When she’s not on the court or in the stands, she’s likely traveling or enjoying live music.

Claudia Larrea

Claudia Larrea (She/Her)

Senior Manager, Programs

Claudia manages a portfolio of global programs and partnerships that advance Beyond Sport’s work to create a more progressive world through sport. She specifically oversees Beyond Sport x Under Armour, Click Clack: Next Era Grant, Head In The Game and NFL Foundation Community Partnerships, working closely with the team in the UK to ensure seamless delivery.

Before joining Beyond Sport, Claudia spent a decade enhancing local education and wellness programs across the U.S. Most recently, she served as the Evanston Program Director for Chicago’s MetroSquash, where she successfully launched and expanded a satellite site in Evanston, Illinois.

Claudia has a BA in International Studies and an MA in Education and Social Change from the University of Miami and a Master’s in International Public Health from Lund University. When she’s not at work, you’ll find her attending Gotham FC and USWNT matches, watching the NWSL on TV, reading all things women’s football and playing co-ed whenever she has the chance. For Claudia, there’s no such thing as too much football.

Winky Law (She/Her)

Manager, Marketing

Winky leads on marketing strategy and creative campaigns, with a purpose of uplifting our communities through visibility and curiosity. She brings a wide range of experience in partnership activations and creative work, championing equity and social justice.

As a marketer and innovator, Winky believes that profit and purpose can go in parallel. She focuses on crafting compelling stories that build trust, reflect the voice of the community and connect people with inclusive spaces. Before joining Beyond Sport, she worked with the Reproductive Rights Activists Collective in the UK and Women in Sports Empowered in Hong Kong, supporting their marketing communications and advocacy work.

With a background that intersects creativity, business and social impact, Winky has seen firsthand how sport can bring sectors and people together, and build resilience in difficult times. In her free time, she loves reading and traveling, while pondering the meaning of many things, like how sport shapes our lives.

Maggie Munoff (She/Her)

Manager, Digital Content

Maggie supports Beyond Sport’s digital storytelling and content strategy, shaping how the organization shares impact, elevates community voices and brings global sport for social change work to life. She brings a strong background in nonprofit communications, creative production and audience-centered narrative development.

Before joining Beyond Sport, Maggie led marketing and communications at Laureus Sport for Good USA, overseeing national editorial workflows, digital campaigns, multimedia storytelling and engagement with athlete ambassadors and corporate partners. Prior to that, she managed development and communications at GallopNYC, an adaptive riding organization serving people with disabilities. This experience deepened her commitment to equity, access and community-centered storytelling. Her career also includes roles across New York nonprofits and a decade in professional film and television production, including on-set work for HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

With experience spanning sport-based youth development, creative production and long-form and digital storytelling, Maggie has seen how powerful narratives can strengthen communities, expand access and make room for more people to belong in sport. In her free time, she loves discovering local coffee shops, watching as much women’s football as possible and exploring New York with her husband, John, and their dog, Ziggler.

Finance

Will Isemann

Will Isemann

Director

Will is the Finance Director of Benchmark, a group of organizations owned and operated by Beyond Sport’s Founder and Board Chair, that are united by sport and driven by purpose. He is responsible for all financial, accounting, banking, treasury, tax, company secretarial and risk duties across the Group.

Will is a Big-4 trained Chartered Accountant at PWC who for the last 20+ years has worked in several senior finance positions primarily in the Media, Digital, Retail and Live Event sectors, for brands including ITV, Sky, Entain, Jigsaw Fashion, and on assignments including fundraising, corporate restructuring and reorganisation and in-depth financial modelling and analysis.

An Economics graduate from Loughborough University of Technology, Will is a keen sports enthusiast – especially in association football and tennis – and believes strongly in sports almost unique ability to bring people together from varied and different backgrounds to improve society.

Controller

Karen is a qualified accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. She joined Beyond Sport’s holding company, Benchmark, in 2013 after 11 years in the hospitality industry. She oversees client and general budgets across Benchmark and facilitated the start-up of Beyond Sport’s US office in terms of financial reporting and budgeting.

Karen previously worked for Charlotte’s Holdings, a family restaurant group where she had full accountability for their operational running, including producing Monthly Management Accounts, Human Resources and Marketing.

Michael works for Benchmark, a group of organizations owned by Beyond Sport’s Founder and Board Chair that are united by sport and driven by purpose.

Michael assists with the day to day running of the company’s financial business.

Holly Warman

Management Accountant

Holly is responsible for a wide range of roles across the Benchmark Group – Beyond Sport’s holdings company – assisting in the production of management accounts. She joined Benchmark straight from school in 2017 and has since completed her Level 3 AAT and Level 4 AAT. Holly is currently working towards being CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) qualified.

Hayley Rose

Hayley Rose

Head of People

Hayley channels her passion for people to head up the Human Resources Department for Benchmark – a group of organizations owned by Beyond Sport’s Founder and Board Chair, that are united by sport and driven by purpose. She is responsible for the general day-to-day management of the HR function as well as the oversight of strategic initiatives related to Learning & Development, DEI, Recruitment, Processes & Policies and Rewards & Initiatives.

Prior to this role, Hayley worked on operations, logistics and administration for six years as Senior Events Manager for Beyond Sport. She received her CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development) Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management in 2020.

Georgia Smith

Human Resources Executive

Georgia works for Benchmark, supporting Beyond Sport with the smooth running of day-to-day people operations. She plays a part in all stages of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, and performance management, helping ensure the Beyond Sport team has the tools they need to bring their best selves to work.

Georgia holds a Level 3 CIPD qualification in People Practice and is aspiring to complete her Level 5 in People Management. In her previous role, she worked for British Universities & Colleges Sport (the UK equivalent of the NCAA) as the Human Resources & Operations Coordinator for three years, combining her passion for sport and people.

In her spare time, Georgia enjoys all things fitness and wellness, including going to the gym, finding new Parkrun locations, swimming, and she has recently started playing recreational football. Of course, all accompanied with a sweet treat and ice coffee!
