Nike increase voter participation efforts in latest film

October 30, 2020

With the US election taking place next Tuesday, Nike has released a new campaign to increase voter participation. Its film, “You Can’t Stop Our Voice,” illustrates "how you don't have to be a global superstar to make an impact."

Directed by Hiro Murai and narrated by actress Regina King, the film features athletes like LeBron James, Naomi Osaka, Odell Beckham Jr., Sue BirdJa MorantA’ja Wilson and Tim Anderson, and other athletes then feature in the visual, which is ultimately aimed at getting out the vote.

Produced by Wieden + Kennedy Portland, the 60-second piece tells voters that you don't have to be a sports star to change the world. Nike has become increasingly active in US politics, forging a series of partnerships with polling organisations to establish a voter registration tool and state-level voter information.

Earlier this summer, and on the 55th anniversary of the historic US Voting Rights Act, Nike celebrated the right to vote with a commitment to Time to Vote, a nonpartisan effort to increase voter participation in U.S. elections.

Leading up to the November election, Nike additionally teamed up with nonpartisan expert Rock the Vote as a technology partner to create a platform for people to register to vote, check registration statuses and find state-by-state voting information. They also partnered with When We All Vote, a nonpartisan organization, to help provide information and resources to get out the vote.

The campaign also addresses the difficulty of securing access to polling stations. Nike is also partnering with transportation networking company Lyft to support early voting and access to discounted rides in communities who have historically had a harder time getting to the polls such as Atlanta, Chicago and Baltimore, as well as supporting voters in in Beaverton, Oregon where Nike has its World Headquarters.
