EVERFI and SAP Collaborate to Deliver STEM Education to Students in North America

June 25, 2019

Sport and STEM Alliance member, EVERFI, INC., has joined forces with enterprise application software provider, SAP, to provide STEM experiences for 6th grade through 9th grade students in both the United States and Canada. The goal of the STEM partnership is to inspire and educate the next generation of leaders and professionals.

The program, SAP Digital Scholars, hopes to encourage students into seeking careers in technical fields. Not only will these students learn STEM through their lessons, but will also learn about the careers that can be pursued within the industry with this newfound knowledge. The hope is that this program can reach around 100 schools across the continental USA (California, Georgia, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas) and Canada (British Columbia and Ontario). Neither schools nor students will have to pay for these experiences.

Alexandra van der Ploeg, Global Head of Corporate Social Responsibility for SAP said, “The pace and scale at which innovation is accelerating impacts students, employers, and communities everywhere…It is our responsibility as global leaders in technology and innovation to ensure we address opportunities for digital inclusion. By partnering with trusted organizations like EVERFI, we connect the core competencies of different organizations, multiply the impact that we have with each other and really drive effective growth in STEM education.”

SAP and EVERFI will develop a module within the SAP Digital Scholars program that will concentrate on sports analytics and how both data and technology play a key role in advising business decisions. In order to keep students interested, as well as allow them to learn most efficiently, this module will be presented through a digital sports arena theme. This module will help prepare students for STEM careers through problem-solving and prioritizing.

Jon Chapman, Co-Founder and President of Global Partnerships at EVERFI stated, “STEM-based careers are expected to grow exponentially in the coming years and it is incredibly important to educate our future leaders with the skills they need to be successful…We are delighted to work with a recognized leader like SAP to bring this engaging, interactive program to life for so many students.”

As 80% of the nation’s fastest-growing careers often require some skill learned through STEM, students often reflect on their activities to determine how their interests can translate into a career path.

Stephen Tow, a teacher in the Chicago Public School System said, “As a teacher who teaches Engineering Design and the design process, I really love the SAP Digital Scholars Program…Designing the Ultimate Prototype is the perfect introduction to students on the engineering design process, careers, and the different parts of a 3D printer. My students truly utilized the knowledge learned in this course to help them develop their own products like keychains, cookie cutters, and model cars. I highly recommend the SAP Digital Scholars Program.”

SAP and EVERFI’s partnership is a piece of the global initiative, Learning for Life, which aims to ensure opportunities for everyone regardless of age or background. Through learning the relevant skills to flourish and grow as an individual, SAP hopes to continue to shape the next generation of leaders and professionals.
