Expanding on a UK-based collaboration that began in 2023 on World Mental Health Day, Nike and Spotify have now launched a global partnership. “Make Moves” wants to inspire girls to move to one song every day, supported by leading athletes, artists and creators from around the world.
According to a 2024 World Health Organization (WHO) study, 85% of teen girls globally aren’t meeting the recommended guidelines for physical activity. They also often experience lower confidence, increased self-awareness and fear of judgment in sport unless they already excel in the activity. The partners are working to help girls celebrate the freedom and joy of movement, free from pressure or perfection.
Girls in countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the U.S. can access the energetic Make Moves playlist on Spotify’s “‘EQUAL hub,” curated by athletes, artists and teen girls. The project reflects a shared commitment from Nike and Spotify’s to explore innovative ways to meet teen girls where they are and help them incorporate movement into their daily lives. Their goal is to encourage girls to move to just one song a day to boost their mental wellbeing, using music to make it more joyful and accessible.
“Sometimes I don’t know whether I listen to music or music listens to me,” shared English footballer and Nike athlete Lotte Wubben-Moy, who features in the campaign. “That’s how in-tune I feel with my playlists. When I go for a run, I ask for hype music, and when I’m doing yoga, I need low-key tunes. I honestly feel like life could throw anything at me and I’d deal with it as long as I have my earphones with me.”
The notable curator lineup includes brazy, SGaWD, Bridget Blue and KMAT alongside world-class Nike athletes Dina Asher-Smith, Keely Hodgkinson, Georgia Stanway, Ada Hegerberg, Mariona Caldentey, Rhasidat Adeleke, Sophie Hahn, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Georgia Bell, Zoe Harrison, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Amber Anning. Through the platform, they encourage girls to create a lasting daily ritual involving movement and music, which have been proven to have a profound and positive impact on mental wellbeing.
“Music has been my constant—a source of motivation, comfort, and energy through all the highs and lows,” said British track and field athlete Keely Hodgkinson. “That’s why a campaign focused on music and movement for teenage girls is so important. It’s during those years that so many girls start to drift away from sport. But staying active has taught me resilience, self-belief, discipline and joy. If we can help more young girls stay in sport—and find their own rhythm, with music and movement—we’re giving them tools for life.”
The platform is custom designed to ease girls’ entry into the sport ecosystem, creating positive associations with physical activity, and boosting confidence and self-expression.
