The Real Madrid Foundation has joined forces with multinational tech company HP Inc. to promote digital skills and sport for good initiatives for disconnected communities. The duo believes that by leveraging their specialties, they can prepare people to succeed in the workforce. The strategic collaboration will highlight the power of technology, sports values and education in generating positive and lasting change in the world.

As part of its existing global technology sponsorship of Real Madrid, HP will provide cutting-edge technology and digital solutions to the Foundation’s two key programs. Beginning in Spain and Indonesia, the initiative will deliver essential business and digital skills to participants through HP LIFE, the HP Foundation’s free online platform.

The program comes at a time when digital exclusion remains a significant challenge. According to a 2023 Digital Divide Project report, around 14% of people in Spain lack basic digital skills, with a growing gap between urban and rural areas. In Indonesia, the situation is even more pronounced, with approximately 50% of the population lacking access to the internet, especially in rural and underserved regions. This digital gap prevents many from accessing vital educational and career opportunities, further perpetuating social inequalities.

In Spain, HP’s involvement will also bolster the Foundation’s partnership with the Red Cross. The collaboration will support a sports-based program for homeless individuals at the Temporary Care Center (CAT) in San Blas, Madrid. It plans to assist unemployed and immigrant populations facing social exclusion, with a focus on improving psychological wellbeing through regular sports practice. HP will provide participants with access to hardware, digital literacy resources and skills development.

In Indonesia, HP’s contribution will enhance the Foundation’s Harapan Project, which targets youth education in nine villages in the Hu’u district of Sumbawa. The project, part of the Foundation’s Social Sports School program, encourages physical activity while instilling core values like respect, autonomy and teamwork. HP will help provide students with technology and educational content, enabling them to access digital skills courses developed in partnership with Girl Rising, a HP partner dedicated to creating inclusive curricula and innovative tech solutions for students and educators.

“These projects exemplify the global impact of this alliance, which will empower vulnerable communities through access to sports and technological education, reinforcing values such as effort, resilience and teamwork [and] allowing local NGOs to offer critical support to their communities,” said Alvaro Arbeloa, Real Madrid ambassador and coach of the Juvenil A youth team.

The partnership launched with a signing ceremony held at Ciudad Real Madrid, where representatives from both organizations gathered to kick off the multi-year initiative. Through this partnership, the duo intends to create lasting impact by upskilling and providing access to communities that lack opportunities, building a more inclusive future for all.
