StreetGames, a UK charity dedicated to connecting young people from underserved communities with opportunities in sport, has announced a three-year partnership with sporting events promotion company, Matchroom Boxing. Through a significant contribution to StreetGames Inspiration Campaign, the collaboration will bring boxing to thousands of young people in low-income areas across the the country.

The partnership will increase access to boxing at the grassroots level, while also providing a pathway to elite competition. Key goals of the initiative include:

  • Building skills, confidence and career pathways
  • Inspiring young people to take up boxing
  • Expanding opportunities to participate, watch and volunteer
  • Strengthening the collaboration between StreetGames and Matchroom Boxing

Over the next three years, StreetGames will support community organizations by providing training, equipment and funding for regular boxing sessions and events. Additionally, young people will have the chance to attend major boxing matches, offering them access to a sport that’s often out of reach. The program will also include volunteering and work experience opportunities, giving participants the chance to develop valuable skills both inside and outside the ring. Leveraging Matchroom’s wide-reaching platform, the partnership intends to break barriers and make the sport more accessible to all youth.

“This initiative ensures that youngsters have access to the sport in trusted local spaces, empowering them with the confidence, discipline and opportunity to be the best they can be. It’s exciting to introduce more young people to the benefits of the sport,” said Alex Le Guével, Matchroom’s Head of Community Development.

The collaboration kicked off in Manchester with a grassroots boxing celebration, featuring over 200 local children and young people. The event was a unique celebration of boxing and community spirit, bringing together young people to enjoy the sport and engage in a range of activities.
