Play Like a Girl & BRANWYN Support Young Women in STEM

Play Like a Girl, a U.S. nonprofit using sport to empower marginalized women and girls in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), has joined women-led performance innerwear brand, BRANWYN to encourage girls and women to stay active and dream big through environmental stewardship and STEM education.

Play Like a Girl works to level the playing field by leveraging the skills young women gain from sport to propel them into competitive, male-dominated careers in STEM. Its programs connect girls with inspiring women role models and mentors and provides resources to guide them toward leadership and a future in STEM. It’s served over 50,000 girls in the U.S. through camps, after school clubs and sports clinics, with half of the girls coming from historically underrepresented groups. BRANWYN will support the organization as an ‘Empowerment Partner,’ donating 1% of sales to its efforts, ensuring that young women have access to opportunities that shape their futures.

BRANWYN has donated over $155,000 to date to its nonprofit ‘Empowerment Partners.’ The women-led brand is committed to advancing gender equity in STEM – an industry where women, especially those of color, remain significantly underrepresented. STEM education is a rapidly expanding field of study and work, with STEM job roles growing over 79% within the last 30 years. But despite this, only 34% of the STEM workforce are women and of these, less than 10% are BIPOC.

Through its partnership with Play Like a Girl, it wants to help break down these barriers by funding mentorship programs, corporate field trips and educational initiatives that introduce girls to careers in STEM fields. By aligning their environmental and social impact goals, the duo intends to extend their impact on an inclusive, equitable and sustainable future for the next generation of women leaders, scientists, engineers and innovators.

Based in Bend, Oregon, BRANWYN produces the world’s first and only ethically-sourced, naturally sustainable Performance Innerwear made by and for active women. The company actively supports girls and women while aligning eco-friendly practices in its packaging and shipping processes. It is trying to eliminate plastic and reduce waste by opting for biodegradable and recyclable materials.

Next month, Play Like a Girl will celebrate Women’s History Month by launching a spotlight series that will highlight the remarkable achievements of its girls/women in sports, STEM and leadership. The campaign will feature inspiring stories of its 2025 Play Like a Girl Honors award recipients and members of the Honorary Host Committee. The honorees will share their journeys and how they made significant strides in their fields, helping to break barriers and open doors for other girls.
