Whoopi Goldberg Launches All Women’s Sports Network

Award-winning U.S. actor, comedian and television host, Whoopi Goldberg is launching the All Women’s Sports Network (AWSN) in partnership with international streamer JungoTV. The groundbreaking 24/7 channel is dedicated exclusively to women’s sports and will be available in 65 countries. AWSN will air everything from the UEFA Women’s National League to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to the International Basketball Federation and more.

In 2023, women’s sports made up 15% of total sports media coverage, up from the previously common figure of 4%. Despite this growth, coverage remains disproportionately low compared to 95% of men’s sports. AWSN wants to change this by providing women athletes with the visibility they deserve and addressing the inequality in sports media representation.

Goldberg had the idea of AWSN 16 years ago, inspired by her childhood passion for sports, and announced the project on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “[AWSN will be] the home for live women’s sports from around the world, everything from soccer, basketball, tennis, cricket, curling, you name it, if a woman is playing it, we are showing it.” She hopes that the network will be a source of inspiration for young girls and women, encouraging them to take up sports both on a grassroots level and professionally.

The network has already launched in Asia, the Middle East, India and the U.S. and has said it will air 2,000 hours of live sports in 2024-25. The network already has international content agreements with UEFA; France’s soccer Premiere Ligue (D1 Arkema); FIBA (the International Basketball Federation); Women’s Football Alliance (WFA), a women’s American football league; the International Judo Federation (IJF); Australia’s Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) and Hockey One League (Field Hockey); and Swedish soccer league OBOS Damallsvenskan.

ASWN wants to have the largest distributed women’s sports network in the world, digital or broadcast. It will also provide detailed analysis of games and inspiring documentaries beside live game broadcasts and programming. The network intends to capture the full culture of women’s sports, highlighting the determination and discipline behind each athlete’s journey.

The world is finally recognizing the incredible female athletes who have always been here but were not given the exposure they deserved,” Goldberg stated. “Bringing these athletes, teams, and leagues to over 2 billion people is historical.”

The network’s founding team also includes CEO George Chung, who emphasized the critical need for a dedicated space for women’s sports coverage. “Women’s athletics has grown exponentially, and there hasn’t been a single platform committed to showcasing these incredible stories, athletes, and events year-round,” he noted.
