More about Try Learning @ The Twickenham Stoop
Our curriculum is designed to utilise all aspects of the club to create educational opportunities which engage disaffected pupils, build confidence and self esteem, improves core skills and changes attitudes to learning. Being an after school provision it helps reduce anti social behaviour giving pupil something productive to do with their time. It also provides pupil with the chance to see live sport which many have never experienced due to their social situation. Examples of how this is implemented include developing pupils speaking and listening skills through pupils making their own documentaries about the Stoop, conducting interviews with professional rugby players and dragons den style presentations to share their new product ideas with the merchandise manager.
To improve their maths students undertake a numeracy trail around the stadium, heart rate activities from which they create graphs and interprete data and budgeting exercises in the club shop. By providing students with activities which allow them to interact with others in a supportive, non threatening way and by making them feel special with access to state of the art technology to which they have never been exposed we are able to also meet our aim of building confidence.
