More about ICE: I Can Excel After-School Program and Summer Dreams Camp

Figure Skating in Harlem is the first community organization in the world to introduce the sport of figure skating to girls of color who face generational poverty and combine that with rigorous educational support and leadership training. Our 18 year track record demonstrates that we are making a difference in improving academic performance, physical health and emotional well-being, as well as diversifying this winter sport. We focus specifically on girls of color and transform their lives through figure skating and education.

They develop life-skills such as perseverance, goal-setting, focus and resilience that in turn improve academic performance. Off the ice, academic tutoring, classes in writing, financial literacy and STEM as well as educational planning strengthens their core competencies and equips them to graduate high school and attend a 4-year college. For this track record of success, Figure Skating in Harlem has received the Community Leadership Award from the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, partnered with global corporations like Citi to be featured in a commercial during the last winter Olympics, and was highlighted on CNN Heroes.
