More about GDM
The GDM Program is a genuine grass-root initiative in a very poor rural area of Mozambique, called Manica. The Program aims to provide hope to the youth primarily through the establishment of an inspiring community club. This club functions as a social hub and facilitates various activities and initiatives. Sport, in particular soccer, is used as a tool to give hope, build learning relationships and transfer enabling skills. The program has a holistic outlook in that it recognises the inter-relatedness of social, cultural, political, historical and economic issues.
GDM deals with everyday issues like hunger, addictions, despair, broken families and HIV-Aids in a relational manner. GDM is characterised by friendships and these form the foundation for all activities. In order to teach youths real-life skills (and real life-skills) certain opportunities are created, like: an English School, Computer School, Agriculture, Indigenous Band, Soccer Teams, Basketball Teams, Volleyball, Handball, Chess Club, Bakery, etc.
