More about Creating Safe Spaces in sport
Moving the Goalposts Kilifi is a community based organization that since 2002, uses football to empower over 5,000 girls in the rural and urban areas of Kilifi and Kwale Counties. MTG has succeeded in shifting over 5,000 girls from a ‘Hatuwezi’ (‘We Can’t’) dis-empowered attitude to a culture of ‘Tunaweza’ (‘Yes We Can!’).We use football as a tool to facilitate social change for girls giving girls power – enabling them with the skills needed to make genuine choices about leading a respectful and successful lives as a basic human right.
Most girls in a rural coastal household in Kenya are brought up believing that there are things, such as football - a man’s game - that she should not or cannot do. Finding a way to do something you thought you could, or should, not do helps girls to develop confidence, find their voices, assert their space, reclaim their bodies and protect their rights
