-          First event of its kind to convene in Mexico City

Beyond Sport Mexico on November 17, 2017 will see a unique partnership between Cámara de Diputados (Chamber of Deputies), Beyond Sport, the World Boxing Council (WBC) and Alazraki Sports come to life for the first time to develop best practices on how Mexico can leverage the commodity of sport to create and sustain social good within the country.

thinkBeyond, the advisory arm of Beyond Sport, has been appointed to curate the discussion and bring together an international delegation of senior influencers across sport, business and government. Beyond Sport is the global force for sustainable social change through sport. Beyond Sport Mexico will be added to Beyond Sport’s portfolio of global events, including Beyond Sport United, the Beyond Sport Global Awards, Beyond Innovation, and the Beyond Sport Summit. Beyond Sport has a history of unique collaborations, including partnerships with the likes of the Premier League, NHL, San Francisco 49ers, UNICEF, Chevron and Jaguar Land Rover, all of which have helped facilitate conversations on specific sports, social issues and/or demographics around the world.

Taking place in Mexico City, Beyond Sport Mexico will be the inaugural gathering of its kind in the country in a region of the world that has developed truly innovative and ground-breaking sport for development work throughout its communities.

Change-makers, influencers and global experts already confirmed to join the conversation include Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir - Human rights advocate and collegiate basketball record holder; Kenneth Shropshire - CEO, Global Sport Institute; Melanie LeGrande - VP, social responsibility, Major League Baseball; Mauricio Sulaiman - president, WBC; global sport for development adviser, Ana Arizabaleta and Gerardo Gaya - founder, Iluminemos de Azul.

Alexandra Chalat, MD, thinkBeyond commented, “We are delighted to help spearhead this first-ever event not just for the country of Mexico, but for the entire region, which has a dynamic sport and social change community and a huge opportunity to develop a forward-thinking sports industry. The event will provide a platform to showcase the impactful work already taking place within Mexican communities, as well as drive the agenda forward across the region.”

thinkBeyond has supported government and governing bodies in the past with creating ground-breaking and unique convening opportunities, including the NHL’s Hockey Sense event during the World Cup of Hockey in 2016 and ESPN’s discussion on society and sport’s role ahead of the ESPYs earlier this year.

As Official Partners, the WBC and Alazraki Sports will provide regional expertise and support. The event also has the backing of Beyond Sport Founding Supporters Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association and National Football League, and will showcase the leagues’ growth plans for the region and their commitment to social causes and growing sports participation in communities across the region.
